“By David Litchfield (Aged 14)”
Today me and my brother cleared out a load of old crap from my mum’s house as she’s moving. I was going through some of my old stuff when I came across this little gem that I hadn’t seen for absolute years.
This is technically my first ever illustration commission I did for the local comic shop when I was 14 years old. I say ‘technically’ because I was actually payed in Star Wars Comics and not money (I believe it was the Dark Horses mini-series of Droids, issues 1 to 6).
‘Mike’ who used to work at Comic’s Unlimited at 4 Clair Court, Bedford (now the cool little Vintage boutique @rosetintedvintage) asked me to draw the flyer one day when I was on work experience there (one amazing week in my life) as they knew I did ‘art stuff’.
I was so chuffed that they asked me to illustrate it, although back then I didn’t really know that I could become an illustrator or care anything about careers or getting paid to draw. All I thought about was how cool it was that I could draw Boba Fett, Mulder and Scully, Batman and Judge Dredd and people would actually see it.
Although, to be honest. the only people who actually did see it where comic fans and Warhammer geeks from in and around the Bedford town radius.
Until now that is. Thanks internet :) x

Oh my god, I forgot about that shop. I think it closed down pretty soon after I discovered it. I used to buy Pokémon cards from there, I distinctly remember my pride after getting a shiny Beedrill from a pack there. Good times.
